About Us

Friends of Jaclyn - the value of life, the power of love

In 2008 the Bishop Feehan girls lacrosse team formed a bond with the Friends of Jaclyn (FOJ) Foundation. This foundation was inspired by Jaclyn Murphy, a child who was diagonsed with a medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor. Since its inception in 2005, the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation has worked to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families.

For the past four years, the girls lacrosse team has held an annual car wash and bake sale to help raise money for the foundation. As a result of their hard efforts, they donated $877.23 to FOJ in 2009. In 2010, they donated $1160.20. In 2011, they donated $1185.93. In 2012, the Feehan boys lacrosse team joined forces with the girls lacrosse team and helped raise $1676 for FOJ.

Members have also participated in the Friends of Jaclyn 5K Run/Walk at Amherst College to help raise funds for FOJ.

In addition to donating money to the foundation, the girls lacrosse team members also serve as part of the "Jaclyn's Guardian Angels" network which brings messages of love, support, and prayer to children with tumors who have no more treatment options and are in hospice care during the final stages of life.

The girls lacrosse team is also on a waiting list for the FOJ "adoption" program. This program pairs a child who has a brain tumor with a college or high school sports team based on geographic location. The child becomes an extended member of the team, and forms a special bond through the love, support, and friendship of team members. We are not sure when this will happen for the Feehan lacrosse team. FOJ tries to pair each team with a child that lives near them. We have not yet heard of a child in our area with a brain tumor.

Bishop Feehan Girls Lacrosse Team receives the Community SPIRIT Award from the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation:

FOJ SPIRIT Award trophyIn February 2013, The Bishop Feehan Girls Lacrosse Team was awarded the Community SPIRIT Award from FOJ for their work raising money for the foundation, their work to promote awareness of children with pediatric brain tumors, and for their personal involvement in the FOJ Guardian Angels program for children with brain tumors who have entered hospice care.

The team's coaches and captains traveled to New York to attend the foundation's annual Gala to receive the award on behalf of the team.

While there, they met Jaclyn Murphy and her father Denis Murphy, founder and President of the foundation
