Friends of Jaclyn

Jaclyn Murphy

Jaclyn Murphy, the inspiration for the Friends of Jaclyn FoundationThe friends of Jaclyn Foundation (FOJ) was inspired by Jaclyn Murphy, a child who was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, in March 2004 when she was nine-years-old. Jaclyn's strength and courage, relentless spirit, and joy for life are an inspiration to those who know her.

Jaclyn Murphy was "adopted" by the Northwestern lacrosse team in 2004 during her battle with pediatric cancer.

After seeing how much Jaclyn benefited from the relationship she had with the Northwestern Wildcats, the "Friends of Jaclyn" foundation was founded in 2005 to help improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families. FOJ’s goal is to be able to continue to touch people with Jaclyn’s smile, her kind heart, her hope and faith that some day there will be a cure.

FOJ matches a child in need of love, support and friendship with a college or high school sports team based on geographic basis. After the adoption is completed, the child becomes an extension of the team where a unique bond is formed between the team members, the child and the family. Team members stay in contact with the child through text messaging, emails, phone calls, facebook, and twitter postings.

FOJ has completed more than 230 adoptions in over 20 different sports. They currently have over 1,000 schools on a waiting list.

The Bishop Feehan Girls Lacrosse team is one of the schools on their waiting list.
